Desertification is known in wet deserts and other arid regions, which have been affected by climate and human causes. In fact, at present, the main reason for desertification is the misuse of land, soil and forests by humans.

Most parts of desertification are spread in hot and humid tropical regions, whose area is increasing. According to United Nations estimates, 40 per-cent of Africa, 33 per-cent of Asia and 20 per-cent of Latin America are under desertification.

According to the National Environment Policy 2006, the desert ecology (dry and semi-arid zone) of India is about 38.8 per cent of the total area of India, which extends to 10 states of India. Among the countries of the world where the problem of desertification is very serious, the names of Jordan, Lebanon Somalia, Ethiopia, The Sudan Chad, Marla, Mauritania and Pa Sahara are notable.

To the west of the Aravalli range in Rajasthan is the Thar Desert. Most of its parts are located in Rajasthan. It extends to Pakistan in the west. The climate of the Thar desert is very dry. The temperature rises a lot during the day and decreases by night.

Rainfall is very less in the desert region and monsoon winds during the rainy season. Groundwater is found at greater depths which are mostly saline. The vegetation is mostly small, thorny and shrub here due to lack of rainfall.

There are not many sources of livelihood here due to water supply. Livelihoods are mostly animal husbandry, agriculture, handicrafts and wages. Arrangements are made to collect rainwater in houses. The major crops are Jowar, millet and mung. Animals like sheep, goats, cows and camels are found here.

Here cotton, woollen cloth making, carpets, blankets etc. are made from sheep goats and camel hair. Mass density is very low in this state. Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Balotra, Sirohi, Jodhpur, Pali, Sriganganagar, Churu etc. are the major towns of this region.

Due to the sand in the desert, the crop is not nearly grown there as there is a lack of water. There are no birds here as there are no trees here, due to lack of water here, people live their lives by bringing water from another place through camel.

Along with the hot desert, the cold desert is also found here, snow is found around the sand, due to which the area here is cold and the weather here remains cool. People here wear warm clothes to live their lives and spend their lives by burning wood in their homes. There are cold desert locations such as Antarctica, Arctic, Greenland, the deserts are always cold.
